Maverick Art addresses the American West as a visual experience, where the rugged image of a frontier past collides with a modern landscape of technical innovation, environmental change, and increasing cultural diversity. In this first broad survey of contemporary art, drawn mainly from the collections of the Autry National Center, the exhibition focuses on recent acquisitions in painting, sculpture, photography, and video. Note: The museum, museum store, and cafe will close to the public at 2 p.m. to prepare for the Autry's annual Gala.

   A View From the Braun: Southwest Museum Lecture Series: “Capturing California’s Romantic Past: The Watercolor Works of Eva Scott Fenyes” by Kim Walters

  

Encouraged by her friend, Charles F. Lummis, Fenyes made over 300 paintings of historic California adobes from 1898 to 1930. Some portray the romantic Spanish past, and others are the only known documentation of historic adobes. Open to all guests; no reservations required.
