Members are invited to attend a private viewing and tours of Maverick Art. Let Autry curators bring the exhibition to life. Then head over to the Golden Spur Cafe to enjoy complimentary snacks and refreshments. No reservations required. Curator-led tours at  11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Maynard Dixon: Art and Spirit film screening at 3 p.m.; filmmaker Jayne McKay Q & A to follow.

Maverick Art addresses the American West as a visual experience, where the rugged image of a frontier past collides with a modern landscape of technical innovation, environmental change, and increasing cultural diversity. In this first broad survey of contemporary art, drawn mainly from the collections of the Autry National Center, the exhibition focuses on recent acquisitions in painting, sculpture, photography, and video. Note: The museum, museum store, and cafe will close to the public at 2 p.m. to prepare for the Autry's annual Gala.

The Autry National Center of the American West reveals a startling exhibition of contemporary art drawn primarily from its permanent collection. Representing many different viewpoints, the approximately 50 artists in this exhibition share a groundbreaking status within their respective fields. A View From the Braun: Southwest Museum Lecture Series
“Capturing California’s Romantic Past: The Watercolor Works of Eva Scott Fenyes” by Kim Walters
Encouraged by her friend Charles F. Lummis, Fenyes made over 300 paintings of historic California adobes from 1898 to 1930. Some portray the romantic Spanish past, and others are the only known documentation of historic adobes. Open to all guests; no reservations required.

4.   When will I receive renewal notices and when does my membership expire?

You will begin receiving renewal notices three months prior to your expiration date. As soon as you renew, you will no longer receive notices until the following renewal cycle. I.e. If a member joins in January, 2006 and renews within their renewal cycle (which in this case is before the end of January 2007), their next expiration will be January 2008. If they let their membership lapsed and rejoin in April of 2007, their new expiration date would be in April of 2008. top



5.   How long is a membership good for?

Memberships to the Autry National Center are annual and expire on the anniversary date of the original join date so long as the member renews within the regular membership cycle. top



6.   What is a Benefactor member?

Benefactors are members at our Turquoise ($160) level and above. top



7.   How can I get invitations to Benefactor events?

By joining or upgrading to any of the Benefactor levels of membership. top



8.   I made a donation to the annual fund. Does that cover my membership fee?

Donations to the annual fund are considered tax-deductible charitable contributions and do not apply to membership fees. top



9.   How can I be featured in the membership profile section of the website?

10.   How can I find out about upcoming member events?

11.   How many guests may I bring to a member event or to museum visits?

Dual - may bring one guest. Family - Family Plus may bring two guests. Turquoise and above may bring 3 guests. top



12.   What is the dress code at member events?

Unless otherwise specified on the invitation, the dress code is business attire or "fancy" western wear. top



13.   What discounts do I get in the shop and cafe?

Members receive 10% in the shop and cafe for the Dual - Turquoise levels. However, Copper - Gold levels receive a 20% one-time use coupon for the shop and a regular 20% off in the cafe. Members must present their card to receive their discount and the member discount applies to member purchases only. top



14.   I'm interested in upgrading my membership to a higher level. Do I have to wait until my membership expires?

Absolutely not. You can upgrade your membership anytime during the course of your membership or at renewal time. top

In accordance with IRS guidelines, the following information outlines the tax-deductible portions of each of our membership levels. Members must waive some or all of their membership benefits to claim tax deductibility for the entire cost of the membership.

21.   Is there an email I can get which tells me about what's going on at the Autry National Center?

Occasionally, the Autry will send out an email to members letting them know what’s happening at the museums, however in order not to inundate members we post event information on our website and encourage them to read What's Next. top



22.   Do members pay for special exhibitions?

Most special exhibitions are free to members. In addition, members have the opportunity to attend free exhibition previews and viewing events throughout the year, as well as purchase discounted tickets to a variety of programming events. top



23.   How often may I visit the Autry National Center as a member?

Members may visit the Autry National Center as often as they like for an unlimited number of times each year free of general admission fees. top



24.   May I lend my membership card to my friends?

Unfortunately, membership cards are not transferable. top



25.   Can I purchase store or cafe items with my member discount for friends or guests?

Discounts are a privilege extended to our members only, therefore discounts are not transferable. top



26.   We have a caregiver for our child(ren) - can she bring the children?

Certainly. Simply have your caregiver provide along with your membership card, a signed statement from you saying that he/she may use your card. The caregiver must also provide proper identification. top



27.   Are membership fees refundable?

No, membership fees are not refundable. top



28.   Can the admission rebate be applied to gift memberships?

Admission rebates can only be applied to the membership of the person who attended the museum. top



29.   Are there other giving opportunities?

Yes! You can make tax-deductible charitable contributions, gifts in tribute or bequests to the museum. Please contact Anna Norville at 323.667.2000 for further information. top

30.   What are the reciprocal museums for upper level members?

Members at the Turquoise level and above also enjoy reciprocal benefits at seven other museums nationwide.top

31.   What discounts do I receive in the Museum Stores and Golden Spur Cafe?

All members receive a 10% discount on regular price merchandise in both Museum Stores. Copper, Shell, and Gold level members also receive a 20% off one-time only coupon to be redeemed at time of purchase in the Museum Store and they receive 20% off in the Cafe. Members must present their card to receive their discount and this discount applies to member purchases only. Purchases made in the Museum Stores support the education and cultural mission of the Autry National Center.

Additionally, members at the DualFamily level receive a 10% discount in the Golden Spur Cafe, while members at the Family-PlusTurquoise levels receive a 15% discount, and members at the CopperGold levels receive a 20% discount. Again, members must present their card to receive their discount. top
